    篇名/題名:The Effects of Technology Use in Foreign Language Learning and Teaching
    摘要:A worldwide increase in the demand for foreign language instruction and learning has stimulated interest in how technology can help meet students’ needs. The new technologies offer many possibilities to the foreign language teacher and learner. Technology is an effective tool that can compensate for the limitations of time and space (limited class hours, no access to native speakers, etc.), meet students’ needs (comprehensive input, constructing meaning, individual differences, etc.), and expand learning resources (interactive package, the Internet, email, etc.), especially for foreign language learning. Therefore, the application of technology will impact on students and teachers in foreign language learning and teaching. The purposes of this study are: (1) to explore the merits and weaknesses of language teaching and learning through technology; (2) to examine the change of teachers’ and students’ roles while using technology; (3) to investigate the ways and attitudes teachers and students are using technology in teaching and learning foreign language.
    A pilot evaluation was administered to evaluate the effects of the use of technology in foreign language learning and teaching in a computer-based college level Elementary French II class at a university. Two questionnaires were modified to evaluate the effect of student and teacher use of technology on foreign language learning and instruction.
    Two pedagogical implications may emerge from the study. First, the real presence of teachers and students in the classroom setting cannot be replaced by technology, but the language teacher who does not utilize technology will be replaced by the teacher who does. Second, every technology or medium model has its own limitations, but an educator should have a clear idea about course contents, and about using technology to meet the needs of specific topic and contents. Thus, teachers play a major role in employing CALL successfully and effectively. Finally, technology can prepare students for their future in which both higher education and the world of work are becoming more infused with technology.
